
Six Huskies Named All-Region

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Six members of the Washington softball team have been named to the Pacific Region's All-Region team, the NFCA announced on Thursday.
Senior outfielder Casey Stangel was named First Team All-Region. Senior infielder Ali Aguilar, junior infielder Taylor Van Zee and sophomore battery unit, Taran Alvelo and Morganne Flores all earned Second Team All-Region Honors. Freshman infielder Sis Bates was named Third-Team All-Region.
Stangel, a native of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, has led the team at the plate with a .355 batting average, .638 slugging percentage and .476 on base percentage. She also leads the team in home runs with 11.
Aguilar boasts a .349 average, 50 runs on 52 hits and ten home runs. The native of Orangevale, Calif., has started and played in 48 games this season. She's collected 76 putouts and 98 assists as the team's starting shortstop.
Van Zee, from Hemet, Calif., has been an integral part of the Huskies' success this season, offensively and defensively. At the plate, she has only struck out five times in her 176 at bats. The junior has started and played in all 54 games this season. She has six home runs, a .352 average and leads the team in doubles (15).
Alvelo, who hails from Carroll, Ohio, also earned All-Region honors after pacing the Husky pitching staff with a 28-6 record, 170 strikeouts and 22 complete games. Alvelo leads the conference in batter struck out looking and her 74 strikeouts in conference play was third-best while her 12 wins tied for first. Her notable wins this season include Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon, Minnesota and Utah.
Flores has started all 54 games behind the plate this season. The Cypress, Calif., native leads the team in RBIs with 62. She has knocked 10 home runs, 13 doubles and a triple. Defensively, Flores has caught nearly every inning this season, totaling 268 putouts and 12 assists.
In her first year wearing the Purple and Gold, Bates has made an immediate impact both offensively and defensively. At the plate, Bates leads the team and conference in triples with five. She is right behind Stangel in batting average, boasting a season average of .353. The freshman has started all 54 games this season, primarily at second base but has also seen time at third base and shortstop.
