Men's Golf Places Fifth In Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The University of Washington men's golf team wrapped up action at the Western Intercollegiate on Sunday (April 9), placing fifth for its fourth consecutive top-5 finish. The Huskies completed Saturday's postponed second round and then played the final 18 holes at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Washington finished with a two-day total of 1,079 strokes (355-355-369) at the play-six, count-five event. The No. 33-ranked Huskies finished behind three top-10 teams in No. 1 USC, No. 7 Stanford and No. 9 Oregon. USC claimed the team championship with a 54-hole even par 1050.
For the first time this season, a freshman led the way as Henry Lee finished the tournament at 3-over par and tied for 11th overall. Lee turned in the best effort of all the Huskies with 2-under 68 in the second round before signing his third-round scorecard 5-over 75. He finished eight shots back of the medalist, USC's Justin Suh.
Fellow freshman Daniel List recorded a hole-in-one to highlight the final day of competition and was Washington's second-best finisher, placing tied for 21st (71-71-73). List used a six-iron to ace the 176-yard par-three hole.
Junior Frank Garber finished tied for 30th (70-72-75) while senior Corey Pereira (74-76-69) had a nice turnaround, carding a team-best 1-under 69 in the final round to finish tied for 39th place.
Senior Kevin Kwon (70-74-79) tied for 57th while sophomore Carl Yuan (77-70-77) tied for 60th to round out Washington's lineup.
The Huskies will return to action April 28, when they compete at the Pac-12 Conference championships in Boulder, Colo.
