Dawgs Fall To Cal 0-5 At Pac-12 Championships

Ojai, Calif. – In the second round of the Pac-12 Championships today the Washington women's tennis team fell to California 0-5 at the Weil Tennis Academy.
"I'm proud of the team today for the way we competed but obviously disappointed with the result," said head coach Robin Stephenson. "We lost to this team a couple of weeks ago and didn't compete very well but we turned it around today and gave ourselves a chance to be successful."
In doubles Cal took the first match to finish on court one, but the Huskies responded with a 6-2 win on court three by Nour Abbes and Lana Slavica. Coming down to the match on court two to decide the doubles point, Stacey Fung and Kenadi Hance went to a tie-breaker with Olivia Hauger and Karla Popovic, but ultimately fell by a score of 7-6 (7-5).
Trailing 1-0 and looking to fight back, the Huskies were able to win the first set on four of six courts. However, the Golden Bears won matches on courts two and three to take a 3-0 lead. Needing just one point to clinch, Cal won two matches simultaneously on courts six and one to win by a final score of 5-0.
"We were a couple of points away from winning the doubles point and then we won four first sets in singles and had our chances but Cal is a very good team and deserved the win today," said Stephenson. "We continue to improve as a team with each match we play and are optimistic moving forward
Finishing up play in the Pac-12 Tournament, the Huskies now wait for the NCAA Selection Show, which will air online on Tuesday May 2nd at 2:30 p.m. PT.
