Introducing Olivia Van der Jagt
April 26, 2017 | Women's Soccer
Joining the Huskies from Kent, Wash., incoming freshman Olivia "Olo" Van der Jagt will arrive to campus this coming fall season. She played her club soccer with Eastside FC Red, where she helped guide the team to two Washington state titles and a regional championship in 2016. A two-time WSSCA All-State team selection, she was recently named to the NSCAA Youth Girls All-America team this past fall. We asked the midfielder a few questions in order to get to know her better before joining the squad on campus.
What drew your initial interest in the University of Washington when you began your college search?
I have always been a husky fan since my dad went to the UW, so I think that was one reason I was always drawn here. Another thing that drew my interest to the UW was the location and how good the school is academically. I've always thought the UW was so pretty right on Lake Washington and I like how it's close to home.
What factors played the biggest role in you deciding to commit to Washington?
I think two of the biggest factors that led me to commit to Washington were how close it is to home and the team atmosphere. I loved how when I went on visits the team was always having fun and working hard.
Have you spent much time in Seattle before?
I'll go up to Seattle sometimes for dinner or to shop, but I don't spend a ton of time in the city.
Other than soccer, what is your favorite sport to play?
Other than soccer, I love playing volleyball. I used to play volleyball and beach volleyball until freshman year.
What athlete do you admire the most?
I admire Mia Hamm the most because she was an amazing soccer player and a great role model. I remember I always looked up to her when I was a kid.
If you could have dinner with one person who would it be?
If I could have dinner with one person it would be Jimmy Fallon because I love him and he is hilarious!
What are you most looking forward to as you begin your time here as a Husky?
I am looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and starting to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life.
