April 24, 2017 | Softball
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Washington softball senior, Ali Aguilar, was the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NPF College Draft, which took place Monday evening. She was selected by the Scrap Yard Dawgs of Conroe, Texas in the second round.
Aguilar will join a sisterhood of ProDawg greats such as current Washington head coach, Heather Tarr, Danielle Lawrie, Ashley Charters Victoria Hayward, and Jenn Salling.
"I'm proud of Ali and her body of work here as a Husky softball student athlete," said Tarr. "She's earned everything she's received. As a high school prospect she looked up to and admired the work of one of our best infielders, Jenn Salling. I can confidently say today, Ali can be considered in the same category as Jenn. Ali is arguably the best shortstop and hitter I've coached."
As a Husky, Aguilar has earned a .373 batting average. The native of Orangevale, Calif., has collected 53 home runs, 55 doubles, 216 runs and 198 RBIs.
This season Aguilar is second in slugging percentage and doubles, and third in batting average.
As a junior, the infielder earned second-team NFCA All-American honors, was named first team All-Pac-12, was an NFCA Division I All-Pacific Region second team pick, and a USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 finalist on April 13. She led the team with 20 multi-hit and 18 multiple-RBI games.
Aguilar will join the NPF this summer following the exhaustion of their collegiate careers and playing with the USA Women's National Team.
