
Huskies Fall to Arizona In Series Finale

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 5-ranked Husky softball team dropped the series finale against No. 4-ranked Arizona, 5-2, Sunday afternoon. Kirstyn Thomas blasted a two-run home run late in the seventh inning, but the Huskies were not able to catch up to the Wildcats' early lead.
With the loss, Washington moved to 26-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Arizona improved to 32-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
The Huskies collected three hits on the day, one each from Casey Stangel, Trysten Melhart and Thomas.
Taran Alvelo started in the circle for the Purple and Gold, retired seven straight batters and issued only one walk.
The first run of the game came in fourth inning off a two-run home run from Arizona's Mo Mercado.
Three more Wildcat runs were scored in the third inning after a second two-run homer from Alyssa Palomino and an RBI single.
With a five-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning, Stangel got on base of a fielding error by the shortstop. Thomas then pounded a home run off Arizona starter Danielle O'Toole (16-1), bringing in pinch runner Kaija Gibson, to make the score 5-2.
The Huskies return to Montlake next weekend to host UCLA March 31-April 2. The series will kick off on Friday, March 31 at 6 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium. All three games will be aired live on the Pac-12 Network and Pac-12.com/live.
