
Washington Collects 20th Win After Shutting Out South Dakota

SEATTLE – No. 8 Washington (20-3) shut out South Dakota, 8-0, in five innings Saturday night at Husky Softball Stadium.
Morganne Flores hit her fourth home run in the Husky Classic, and her eighth of the season, to help the Huskies in their five-inning rout. The team scored at least one run in all but one inning and collected 13 hits.
In the first, lead-off hitter Ali Aguilar was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a passed ball. A single from Julia DePonte sent her home to give the Huskies an early, 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Flores blasted solo home run deep to left field.
Stangel got a four run rally in the fourth inning started with a single. Sis Bates doubled to center field and plated Stangel to extend the lead to 3-0. Flores hit an RBI single followed by a two-run home run from Kirstyn Thomas, ending the inning with the Huskies up, 6-0.
The Huskies finished the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after three singles loaded the bases and Aguilar walked in a run. Amirah Milloy reached first on an error by the third baseman and brought in the walk-off run.
Madi Schreyer pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three hits while striking out three.
Washington will wrap up the Husky Classic tomorrow, Sunday, March 12 at 12:15 p.m. PT in a rematch against Minnesota. Next weekend, the Huskies open up conference play when they host Arizona State beginning Friday, March 17.
