LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 8 University of Washington Huskies (4-1) rolled past Long Beach State (3-2-1), 9-1, Tuesday morning. Four of the nine Husky runs came with two outs with runs scored in the first, second and seventh innings.

The Dawgs wasted no time in Long Beach, getting two runs on the board in the first inning. The first runner in was senior Ali Aguilar, who scored from third base off a single from junior Taylor Van Zee, making the score 1-0. Washington extended their early lead on a sacrifice fly from freshman Sis Bates that allowed Julia DePonte to score.

The second inning proved to be just as productive as the first after the Huskies put two more runs on the board to be up, 4-0. Kelly Burdick hit a single and stole second. She reached third after an error that allowed Aguilar to find second. DePonte singled to left field, bringing in Aguilar and Burdick, making the score 4-0.

With one out in the seventh inning, the Huskies saw some action from a handful of bench players. Trysten Melhart (2-for-3) was brought home from third on an RBI from Kirstyn Thomas. Brittany Werre entered the game for the first time this season. Freshman Maggie Gallagher doubled to center field bringing in Werre. Aguilar doubled to bring in both Thomas and Gallagher to account for the 9-1 final score.

Washington was able to hold off the 49ers in the bottom of the seventh inning to solidify their 9-1 win.

In the circle, Schreyer had three strikeouts in the game, improving her record to 1-1. Junior Kristin Cochran finished the game for the UW, striking out the Beach's final two batters.

The Huskies continue their road trip on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the Campbell/Cartier Classic. The team will play a double header in the Classic against UC Riverside at 4:30 p.m. and host team SDSU at 7 p.m.
