UW Teams With Starbucks For Giveaway Celebrating Dawgs Who Have Served
November 06, 2017 | General
SEATTLE – Local partner Starbucks has teamed with University of Washington Athletics for a special giveaway to celebrate UW students, alumni, faculty and fans who have served in the military. The first 16,000 fans in attendance at the Nov. 18 "Salute to Service" Husky football game vs. Utah will be able to receive a UW branded Starbucks Tumbler or Cold Cup, while supplies last.
"We are excited to join UW as we honor these American heroes, and build on our long-term partnership with UW rooted in shared values like service and community," said Erin Combs, who leads Starbucks hometown partnerships. "The young men and women that make up this institution represent the next generation of leaders that will help our communities thrive and endure. We could not be more proud of the Huskies and look forward to cheering them on at this weekend's game."
Since 2013, Starbucks has hired more than 10,000 Veterans and military spouses with plans to hire 25,000 more by 2025. The company also has a long tradition of donating coffee to deployed troops, and, by 2022, Starbucks plans to open 100 Military Family Stores in the U.S., which are run primarily by veterans and military spouses. More than 30 such locations are already open, including one near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma.
"We are constantly striving to show appreciation to our dedicated fans, and are so thankful to Starbucks for their generosity in giving back to their hometown," said Roy Shick, UW Senior Associate Athletic Director. "Starbucks has provided Husky Fans with more than 75,000 premium giveaway items at UW events over the past year, and we are truly grateful to have incredible local partnerships with global brands like Starbucks."
Huskies fans have received four different models of UW branded drinkware over the past year, including Fan Appreciation Day giveaways at last year's football game against Arizona State and men's and women's basketball games last February.
