SAN FRANCISCO --- A program-best 13 Washington men's soccer players earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors as the conference announced the awards on Thursday. The Huskies had two players earn first-team honors, four named to the second-team and seven receive honorable mention.
Washington's 13 honorees matched the most in the conference and the most in the program's history after the 10 UW honorees on last season's team. Stanford also had 13 honorees with California adding 10 student-athletes, Oregon State having seven, UCLA adding five and San Diego State with four.
Sophomore defender Kasey French and sophomore midfielder John Magnus headlined the group of Huskies, earning first-team honors, while redshirt junior Kyle Coffee, senior Garret Jackson, junior Quentin Pearson and sophomore Jaret Townsend each were named to the second-team. Junior Corban Anderson, redshirt senior Beau Blanchard, sophomore Handwalla Bwana, redshirt sophomore Ryan Degroot, senior Justin Fiddes, redshirt sophomore Saif Kerawala and redshirt junior Scott Menzies earned honorable mention.
"We take great pride in our student-athletes maximizing their potential in every aspect of their lives," said head coach Jamie Clark. "This makes me very proud as it shows they are making the most of their UW experiences."
Blanchard leads the repeat honorees for Washington, earning his fourth-straight Pac-12 All-Academic recognition with Jackson receiving the honor for the third-straight year. Coffee, Pearson, Anderson, Fiddes and Menzies are all two-time honorees.
As a team, Washington's men's soccer program has an impressive team GPA of 3.28 with nine student-athletes placed on the UW Dean's List in the last quarter and 21 receiving a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
To be eligible for selection to the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games.
