Parpart Leads Fifteen All-Academic Honorees

SEATTLE - A total of fifteen Huskies were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Cross Country Team on Wednesday, including 10 Dawgs that traveled to compete at last weekend's NCAA Championships. Redshirt freshman Gavin Parpart leads the way with a First Team spot on the men's side, while NCAA runner-up Amy-Eloise Neale is on the women's Second Team.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be in their second year at their current institution, and race in at least 50% of a team's competitions.
Parpart was the No. 7 runner for the Husky men's team which finished 22nd at NCAAs last Saturday in Louisville. He has a 3.88 GPA on a pre-science track. The top-three finishers for the Dawgs at NCAAs, Andrew Gardner, Colby Gilbert, and Andy Snyder, all earned All-Academic honorable mention, as did senior Johnathan Stevens who made the trip to nationals but did not compete. Charlie Barringer, Julius Diehr, and David Strome are also honorable mentions.
Three women earned Second Team status, led by Neale, who has completed her degree majoring in Public Health with a 3.83 GPA. Also on the Second Team is senior Grace Hodge with a 3.80 GPA in Accounting, and sophomore Nikki Zielinski who ran for the Dawgs at NCAAs to help the women's team finish 21st. Zielinski has a 3.84 GPA on a pre-humanities track.
Honorable mention for the women went to NCAA competitors Izzi Batt-Doyle, Emily Hamlin, and Anna Maxwell, as well as sophomore Kaitlyn Neal.
