Neale, Moussa, Gardner Earn All-Pac-12 Honors
October 31, 2017 | Cross Country
Fourteen runners in each gender earn spots on the All-Pac-12 Teams, with seven on the first team and seven on the second team. Selections are based purely on finish at the Pac-12 Championships, which took place this past Friday at the Springfield Golf Club in Oregon.
Neale took third overall in a thrilling finish as the top-three runners in the women's race battled to the line and were separated by just one second. She is the first back-to-back First Teamer for the women since Maddie Meyers in 2014-15.
In the men's race, Moussa ran up front throughout, turning in the best performance of his collegiate career and leading the Dawgs with a fifth-place finish to earn First Team status. Moussa becomes just the fifth Husky men's runner ever on the All-Pac-12 First Team. Since 2006, only Izaic Yorks' third-place finish in 2015 was higher than Moussa's.
Gardner moved up onto the All-Pac-12 squad for the first time as well, making the Second Team with an 11th-place effort. That was his second-straight top-20 conference finish, as he was 18th a year ago.
The All-Pac-12 Cross Country Teams first began in 1999. This is just the second time in men's team history that the Dawgs have had two All-Pac-12 performers in the same year, the other coming recently in 2014, when Aaron Nelson and Tyler King were both named to the Second Team.
Washington, ranked 16th on the women's side after Pac-12s and 20th on the men's side, will aim to get both squads to nationals with a strong run on Friday, Nov. 10, at the NCAA West Regionals which the Huskies will host at Jefferson Park Golf Course.
