Goings Wins Beam Title, Huskies Score 195.175 At OSU Quad
January 15, 2017 | Gymnastics
COLUMBUS – Junior Joslyn Goings won the beam title with a career-high score of 9.925 and Hailey Burleson took second place in the all-around as the UW gymnastics team scored a 195.175 in their first meet of the season in a quad meet against No. 22 Ohio State, No. 11 Michigan, and Kent State in Columbus, Ohio.
"I am incredibly proud of the team," said head coach Elise Ray. "There were many variables out of our control that happened in the meet tonight, and our team never wavered. They handled themselves with poise, confidence and toughness. They didn't just test the waters in their first competition, they showed up to compete."
The Huskies' highest score came on their last event as the beam lineup combined to score a 49.175, the highest event team score of any of the four teams. Overall, the GymDawgs posted a 195.175 to put them ahead of Kent State, who scored a 192.975. Ohio State finished the meet on top with a score of 195.800, while Michigan took second with a 195.725.
"To end the meet the way we did showed such grit and heart," said Ray. "The team made a statement showing what they're made of. Joslyn's beam routine was the beam routine I see every day in practice. When an athlete can compete how they train, it's incredibly exciting. She is so deserving."
Joslyn Goings adds another beam title to her decorated resume, as she was the top performer for the Huskies on Saturday and posted the second highest score (9.925) of the meet on any routine.
