UW Trio Have Strong Showing At World Cup Of Softball XI
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Washington infielder Ali Aguilar helped the USA Elite team to a fourth-place finish at the World Cup of Softball XI this past week, while former players Victoria Hayward and Jenn Salling led Canada to a fifth-place finish in Oklahoma City.
Aguilar, who just completed her junior season for the Huskies, hit .385 (5 for 13) with two home runs, seven runs batted in and six runs scored during five tournament games.Β
Salling, who played for Coach Heather Tarr and the Huskies from 2009-11, hit .412 in seven games for Team Canada. She had a home run and eight RBI.Β
Hayward was 8 for 20 (.400) in six games for Canada. The 2011-14 UW letterwinner was 3 for 4 in Canada's fifth-place clinching victory over Puerto Rico on Sunday.
Next up for the Washington trio is the WBSC Women's World Softball Championships in Surrey, B.C., which runs July 15-24.
