Magraw Wins Beach Scholar Athlete Of The Year
May 26, 2016 | Beach Volleyball
SAN FRANCISCO – Husky senior Justice Magraw was named the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year today, becoming the inaugural winner of the award. The Pac-12, which sponsored beach volleyball for the first time in 2016, announced its academic honors today, with Magraw leading six Husky honorees.
To be eligible for selection to the All-Academic Teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average, be either a starter or significant contributor and have a minimum of one year of enrollment at their institution. The Scholar Athlete of the Year award is given to a senior or graduate student in their final season of eligibility.
Magraw, a native of Redmond, Wash., is set to complete her undergraduate degree in communication this spring with a 3.78 grade-point average. She played most of her matches at the No. 4 spot with Melanie Wade, and the pair went 3-4, with a key win over California's No. 4 team in the Pac-12 Championships, as the seven-seed Huskies were one of the last four teams remaining on Sunday. The senior also serves as the Vice President of the Washington Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Wade joined Magraw as All-Academic First Team members. Wade, a member of the inaugural Husky 100 and a Husky Green Award recipient, maintains a 3.58 grade point average majoring in Psychology, and she will continue her education at UW pursuing a Master's in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.
Senior Lianna Sybeldon was a Second Team selection, as the Sociology major carries a 3.41 GPA.
Also earning honorable mention was junior Cassie Strickland, and sophomores Crissy Jones and Bailey Tanner.
