SEATTLE – The No. 47 Washington women's tennis team fell to No. 1 California today 7-0 at Bill Quillian Stadium to drop to 12-10 on the season, and 3-6 in conference.
Doubles remained close on all three courts but the Huskies were unable to grab the point, falling on courts one and three. The Dawgs began by taking the first court to finish, with Elianne Douglas-Miron and Kenadi Hance grabbing the 6-4 win over Klara Fabikova and Olivia Hauger. However just as court two finished courts one and three were taken by the Bears. No. 33 Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi dropped a close battle with No. 6 Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr on court one and Sophia Bott and Stacey Fung fell to Lynn Chi and Maria Smith 6-2 on court three to give Cal the 1-0 lead.
After taking the doubles point, Cal carried the momentum into singles, giving the Huskies tough matches all across the board. On court two, No. 100 Abbes fell to 12th ranked Fabikova 6-2, 6-1, with No. 58 Chi defeating Bott 6-0, 6-1. Senior Douglas-Miron battled tough in her second set against No. 75 Starr, but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-3 to give Cal the 4-0 lead, and clinch the match victory.
On court one Fung battled with 10th ranked Maegan Manasse but was barely edged out by a score of 7-6, 6-4. Courts five and six were last to finish, with Kobayashi falling to Smith 7-6, 6-4 on court five, and Kenadi Hance falling in a close tie-breaker to Karla Popovic 5-7, 6-4, 10-6.
The Huskies will be back in action next weekend, when they will host Washington State for their final home match, and senior day, Friday April 15th at 12:30 p.m. The match will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks, with free admission to Bill Quillian Stadium.
