UW Duo Advances To Semifinals At Pac-12 Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – The Huskies women's tennis team played through day two at the Pac-12 Singles and Doubles Championships today at Libbey Park, with duo Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi advancing to the doubles semifinal round.
Abbes and Kobayashi, currently ranked the 34th duo in the country, began the day by defeating Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad of Arizona State in a tough 7-5 match. Their second match began around 3 p.m., where they defeated Stanford's Taylor Davidson and Caroline Doyle 7-5, who were the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and ranked No. 5 nationally.
“Miki and Nour played a great match today and got a big win,” said head coach Robin Stephenson. “They have been playing so well all season and keep getting better. They are looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow.”
Kobayashi has now defeated a top-5 nationally ranked duo three times this season, two paired with Abbes, including a win over then-ranked No. 5 Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips of UCLA 6-1. Today's wins have also moved Kobayashi back into the top-10 in program history for doubles winning percentage in a season at .758, and placed her in a tie for the 7th most doubles wins in a season at 25.
Also playing today in the Doubles Championship bracket, Elianne Douglas-Miron and Kenadi Hance fell to the fourth seeded duo of Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith from USC in a close 7-6(4) match. Olmos and Smith won their next match and join Abbes and Kobayashi in the semifinals.
In the singles invitational both Tami Grende and Kenadi Hance fell in their matches, with Sophia Bott and Stacey Fung falling in their match in the doubles invitational bracket.
The semifinals for doubles will begin tomorrow morning, with Abbes and Kobayashi facing Melissa Lord and Carol Zhao of Stanford at 9 a.m. The other side of the bracket will feature Olmos and Smith of USC versus Arizona State's Alexandra Osborne and Ebony Panoho.
