Gordon Posts Big PR To Lead Multis At Azusa

SEATTLE – Four Huskies finished up a combined thirty-four events today at the Mt. SAC Relays-California Invitational multi-events, held at Cougar Stadium and hosted by Azusa Pacific. Sophomore Josh Gordon finished off a major PR in the decathlon to lead the way for the group.
Gordon posted a PR in every event in day two today, to wind up fifth in the California Invite “A” section with 6,874 points, more than 500 points better than his old best mark. Sophomore Cole Jensen also had a solid two-day effort, scoring 6,612 points for eighth and missing his own PR by a scant two points.
Today Gordon started with a PR of 15.13 seconds in the 110m hurdles, and followed with a discus toss of 108-5. He matched his indoor pole vault best at 13-9 ¼, and then threw the javelin 139-feet, 8-inches. He closed with a 1,500-meter run of 4:38.16, one more career-best. On Wednesday, Gordon had two more bests in the running events, getting a wind-aided 11.03 in the 100-meters, and breaking 50 seconds in the 400m for the first time at 49.93.
Jensen had a big 100-meters PR on Wednesday at 11.00 seconds, and then long jumped a career-best 21-11 ½. He had a 6-5 ½ high jump and then picked up a couple more PRs today, going 104-3 in the discus and getting a great pole vault make at 15-feet, 9-inches.
In the women's heptathlon, senior C.J. Smith finished up 20th in the California Invite heptathlon out of 48 competitors with 4,859 points. Smith had a PR in the high jump on Wednesday with a clearance of 5-1 ¾, and she had an outdoor shot put best of 34-10 ¼. Today she had a strong long jump of 17-8 ¾, threw the javelin 91-0, and finished with a 2:20.26 time in the 800-meters.
Ericka Budinich also wrapped up her first career heptathlon with 4,141 points. She had an outdoor long jump PR of 17-4 today, followed by a javelin career-best of 94-8 and finished the 800-meters in 2:32.07.
