
Aguilar Named Finalist For USA Softball Player Of The Year

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Junior shortstop Ali Aguilar was named a Top 25 finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, as announced by ASA/USA Softball on Wednesday.
In its 15th year, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, given by the National Governing Body for softball in the United States, is designed to recognize outstanding athletic achievement by female collegiate softball players across the country. Previous recipients of the award include former Husky Danielle Lawrie, the winner of the accolade in 2009 and 2010.
This year's Top 25 is comprised of nine seniors, 11 juniors and five sophomores. The student-athletes selected represent 20 NCAA Division I universities and nine athletic conferences. Just prior to the start of postseason play, the list will be narrowed to the Top 10 finalists on May 11. The Top 3 finalists will be announced May 25, while the winner of the 2016 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be revealed on May 31 prior to the start of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Aguilar leads the Pac-12 Conference with 52 runs batted in, 17 home runs and 51 runs scored. Nationally, the shortstop is ranked second in RBI per game (1.53) and runs per game (1.50) while ranking No. 4 with .50 home runs per game. She has had 13 multiple-RBI games and 13 multi-hit games this season.
The 9th-ranked Huskies continue Pac-12 play this weekend (April 15-17) at home, hosting Cal for a three-game series at Husky Softball Stadium.
