
Schmidt, Schilder Invited To 2017 MLS Combine

SEATTLE - Captains Auden Schilder and Justin Schmidt were among 52 NCAA Division I athletes invited to participate in the 2017 MLS Combine, as announced by Major League Soccer on Wednesday.
From Jan. 8-12, the nation's soccer players will showcase their talents in front of MLS club representatives in Los Angeles, Calif. All invited athletes will be eligible for selection in the SuperDraft on Jan. 13. The event is set to take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The invitees were selected by a committee of MLS coaches and NCAA Division I coaches from each conference. The athletes had to complete their college eligibility in order to be selected.
Schmidt was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team this year and the NSCAA All-Far West Region First Team the past two seasons. In 2015 and 2013 he earned Second Team All-Pac-12 honors. He finished his final season in the Purple and Gold with three goals, the second most on the team and two assists. After scoring a game winning goal in double overtime at Stanford, Schmidt found himself on College Soccer News; National Team of the Week on Nov. 1. The redshirt senior has nine career goals and 19 assists.
Schilder played in 20 matches, starting in 19 for the Huskies in 2016. He inked 75 saves in his premiere season as the Huskies' starting goalkeeper. He totaled five shutouts, including a shutout at Stanford, their first loss at home since 2014. The goalkeeper was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week and selected to Top Drawer's Team of the Week on Nov. 1. He was also given Pac-12 All-Conference and NSCAA All-Far West Region second team nods this season. The redshirt junior has six total shutouts and 78 saves in his career.
The duo helped lead the team to a 14-7 record and an appearance in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Schmidt was part of the 2013 Pac-12 Champion team.
Last season Josh Heard, James Moberg and Ryan Herman represented the University of Washington at the 2016 MLS Combine.
Washington is one of only two schools in the Pac-12 to have two athletes invited to the combine; UCLA being the other to have two invitees.
