Fall Season Comes To Close For Huskies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Washington women's tennis team finished up at the David Kent Invitational today, winning two matches in doubles against Rice, and four in singles against TCU and Stephen F Austin.
"It's always a great feeling to be out there representing UW and getting a win," said senior Nour Abbes. "Even though we mixed the doubles teams, it didn't keep us from staying focused on our goals and getting the job done."
Sophomore Stacey Fung paired with Miki Kobayashi today for the first Husky win in doubles, defeating Rice's Wendy Zhang and Fernanda Astete 6-0. Abbes paired with freshman Katarina Kopcalic to defeat Priya Niezgoda and Lindsey Hodge from Rice 6-2.
Four Huskies picked up wins today in singles, beginning with Fung's 6-3, 6-3 win over Sofiko Kadzhaya of TCU. Abbes and Kobayashi grabbed their second victories of the day over TCU's Alexis Pereira 6-1, 6-0 and Madison Tedford 6-2, 6-1 respectively, while Kenadi Hance defeated Stephen F. Austin's Gabi Guilarte 7-5, 6-2.
"I felt like we all did well focusing and resetting the point today," said Kobayashi. "We were strong in both singles and doubles, and everyone came together to accomplish our goal for this weekend. This was my second tournament in singles and I had a really good experience playing with top players for the first two days and learned a lot form it."
The fall schedule has come to an end for the Huskies, as they now look forward to January 12th when they travel to Honolulu, Hawai'i to kick off the 2017 regular season. They will face the University of Hawai'i for their first dual match of the year, and Kansas State the following day on January 13th.
