Huskies Announce Two Early Signings In 2017 Recruiting Class
November 14, 2016 | Men's Tennis
SEATTLE – Washington men's tennis head coach Matt Anger announced the signing of Jack Davis and Alexis Alvarez Varas today, both signing their National Letters of Intent in the early signing period.
Hailing from Port Moody, British Columbia, Davis will join the Huskies after recently being named the 2016 Canadian National Doubles Champion. Coming from Heritage Woods Secondary, he was a doubles semi-finalist at the PNW Championships and doubles quarterfinalist at the Washington State Open in 2016.
"I think Jack has the ability to help us right away, but the most exciting part about him is that he projects so well for the future," said Anger. "He has received good coaching growing up and will blossom in our program."
Varas will be coming to Seattle from Uruapan, Mexico, and has also spent some time training at the Weil Academy in Ojai, California. His highest recruiting class ranking came last June when he was listed as high as the 60th best prospect by TennisRecruiting.net.
"Alexis is an all-court player that already has a dependable game," said Anger. "From all accounts, what I like most about Alexis is how professional he is in his training and approach to the game. It really bodes well for long term progress."
With the Huskies wrapping up their 2017 class for now during the early signing period, the team looks forward to the 2017 regular season. Washington will kick off their schedule at home when they host Seattle for a doubleheader on January 13th at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
