
Huskies Shut Down Central Washington In Doubleheader

ELLENSBURG, WASH. – After a change to the Fall Husky Classic schedule, the Dawgs packed their bags and travelled to Ellensburg, Wash., for a doubleheader at Central Washington University. The Huskies swept the Wildcats 15-1 and 23-5 Saturday.
Pitchers Madi Schreyer and Taran Alvelo were the two starters for the double header. Freshman Sam Manti and Kristin Cochran got some pitches in as well. The four totaled for thirteen strikeouts for the day.
Freshman Nicole Bates headlined the Husky offense, tallying seven hits and six RBI's on the day. The team inked 41 hits and 38 runs in the double header.
Sophomore Morganne Flores was the Huskies' main catcher for the day as she caught for twelve innings. Rachel Ogasawara came in the sixth inning of the second game.
Central Washington's two breakout moments on the day were by Molly Nutt when she hit a single allowing Celine Fowler to run in the sole point for the Wildcats in the first game. In the seventh inning of the second game, Jacie McDaniels scored CWU's solo home run of the day, allowing two runners to cross home plate.
The Huskies had three homeruns in the fourth inning of the first game, totaling for six runs in the inning. The batters included Taylor Van Zee, Kirstyn Thomas and Brittany Ware.
Julia DePonte earned a two run homerun in the top of the seventh, solidifying the Huskies' 15-1 lead.
Freshmen Bates and Alyssa Simons combined for five runs off their two home runs in the second game.
Washington had 15 different batters who recorded at least one hit, and 13 who had at least one RBI.
The Fall Husky Classic will resume as scheduled tomorrow at 12 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. against Wenatchee Valley College and Western Washington University.
