
Stewart Advances To Main Draw At All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Day two of the qualifying singles round at the 2016 Saint Franics Health System ITA All-American Championships was underway today, with Husky Mitch Stewart grabbing two wins to advance to the main draw.
After picking up a 6-2, 6-3 win yesterday to advance to the second round of the qualifying men's singles bracket, the junior from Federal Way, Washington faced Vaughn Hunter, a senior from Mississippi State this morning. Dropping the first set 6-3, the 68th ranked singles player in the country battled back to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-4, advancing to the third and final round.
"I think I kept my composure really well in very tough conditions today," said Stewart. "That kept my focus point in and point out."
Facing South Florida freshman Alberto Barroso-Campos, Stewart took the first set 6-2 before breaking 30-40 to win the second set 7-5 and advance to the main draw on Thursday. The 64-man bracket will be released tomorrow night.
In the consolation matches today, Gal Hakak grabbed a big win over a ranked opponent in No. 73 Carlos Benito of Georgia Tech. The senior picked up the first set 6-2 before being forced into a third set, which he won 6-4.
