Senior Week Spotlight: Madi Kinzer
October 26, 2016 | Women's Soccer
This week, we celebrate the 2016 senior class for the Washington women's soccer team, leading up to senior day on Sunday October 30th against Oregon State at Husky Soccer Stadium. The second transfer to join the UW family in this class, Madi Kinzer joined the program as a junior last season and has played in 19 matches. She has been an integral part of the Husky defense this year, starting in 14 matches at center back. The Tucson, Ariz. native will graduate this year with a major in Psychology and look to use her experiences as a Division-I athlete to work in athletics.
What has been your favorite moment while here at UW, both on and off the field?
"One of my favorite on the field moments was during fitness when we set a goal for every time we sprinted, 'If you run as hard as you can you'll beat this other team in the Pac-12.' Being able to just push each other and yell and cheer for each other while we all ran as hard as we could, that's something I always go back to, kind of makes fitness fun."
"Off the field, I feel like all the fun memories that we've had, like dancing and singing in the locker room and stuff like that, is something I'll never forget."
As a senior, what advice would you give to a freshman?
"Accept and enjoy the grind and the process of everything and don't take anything for granted. Also to appreciate the little things, the friendships and the benefits of being an athlete."
What's your plan after graduation?
"As a career path I think I'd like to do nutritional sciences, but probably stay somewhere within athletics. Whether it's being a sports nutritionist or coaching on the side, I'd love to stay within athletics."
What will you miss the most about UW and being with the soccer program?
"I'm going to miss the people the most. The group of girls on the team and in the staff are so accepting of everyone. I've never been around a group that's so accepting, a group that has been so positive and made everything fun and found the positive side of different things. All the adversity that we've gone through, they're still able to smile and joke through whatever we're doing."
What would one major takeaway from your experience here be?
"I think it'd be to appreciate and accept everyone, and appreciate what we have as athletes; the people around us within the program, the facilities and academics. I think just appreciate that and take nothing for granted."
