
Dawgs Out Of Main Draw At ITA Northwest Regional

PALO ALTO, Calif. โ One Husky duo remained in the round of 16 doubles main draw at the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional, but sophomores Stacey Fung and Tami Grende fell to Julia Eshet and Marlou Kluiving of Oregon 8-3 today, eliminating UW from play.
Washington's weekend started off on the right foot with the opening round of singles, when seven of eight Huskies won their match to advance. In round two five of those seven Dawgs won their matches to advance in the main draw, including Alexis Prokopuik, Fung, Nour Abbes, Katarina Lopcalic and Kenadi Hance. In the first round of doubles Fung and Grende defeated Michelle Lui and Madison Maloney of Seattle to advance, while Abbes and Miki Kobayashi received a first-round bye.
In the second day of play two Huskies advanced to the round of 16 in singles, with transfer Prokopuik and sophomore Fung winning their first match of the day. Both Dawgs fell in their following matches however, to ITA ranked players from Stanford. In doubles Abbes and Kobayashi dropped their opener while Fung and Grende defeated Katerina Stloukalova and Emma Wilson of Fresno State 8-4 to advance to today's round of 16.
Next on the fall schedule for the Huskies is the Texas A&M Invitational from November 4th to the 6th, which will mark the end of play until their regular season opener on January 12th.
