
Washington Cheer Squad Headed To Nationals

For the second straight year, the University of Washington co-ed cheer team will compete at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National Championship on January 15-17 at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The cheer squad will compete in the Division 1A Coed semifinals against 21 other teams, taking the stage on Saturday, January 16 at 2:18p.m. PT / 5:18p.m. ET.
Sixteen Husky Cheer squad members will compete at the championships in Florida, including nine males and seven females. The team is led by first-year head coach Kenny Dow.
The Huskies will compete against fellow Pac-12 schools Colorado and Washington State, as well as Mississippi State, Florida State, Western Kentucky, Alabama, Iowa, Rutgers, Mississippi, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Minnesota, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee, New Mexico, Louisiana-Lafayette, Virginia Tech, UCF, Ohio State and LSU.
Over 100 schools are represented internationally in over 12 cheer and dance divisions. Preliminary rounds take place Saturday, January 16 with the top 12 squads advancing to the finals on Sunday, January 17, which will air on ESPN/ESPN2 in March and April.
Last year was the first time UW competed at UCA Nationals since 2002. The Huskies placed 13th at last year's competition.
