September 08, 2015 | Men's Golf
SCOTLAND -- Just before the Washington men's golf team gets their 2015-16 season underway, they will embark on a trip of a lifetime to the birthplace of golf, Scotland. The team, coaches, staff, alumni and Husky golf supporters will spend a week in Scotland playing some of the most famous courses in the world, while also immersing in the rich history of the country.
The Dawgs arrive Monday, Sept. 7 in Edinburgh, Scotland and will immediately play Prestwick, the No. 14 ranked course in the country. The rugged dunes of Prestwick will preview what is to come with a week of Links Golf.
The following day, the group of Huskies will head to Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, the No. 11 course in Scotland. This club is the sixth oldest in the world and the site of the Scotish Open and the 2012 Walker Cup where Chris Williams competed for the Americans.
On the ninth, Washington will play Castle Stuart Golf Links, which is rated ninth in Scotland. This course became the first in the Scotish Highlands to host a European Tour event back in 2011.
The next day, the Dawgs will test themselves at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, which is ranked third in all of Scotland. This course is considered by many to be the best links course in the world as it is ranked sixth globally overall.
The following day, the Dawgs have the option of playing both Brora Golf Club and returning to Royal Dornoch. Brora is ranked 30th in Scotland, but is considered a classic as you play alongside the sheep tending to the fairways.
On Saturday the 12th, the Huskies will play The Nairn Golf Club, a hidden gem, ranked 18th in Scotland. This course has some of the most spectacular seaside views in the country.
On the final day of golf, the team will return to Cast Stuart Golf Links for their final round, before flying back to the U.S. on the 14th.
It will be an incredible experience for the team as they then return to campus and begin preparations for their first tournament, the Husky Invitational in Suncadia that begins September 21.
