Flanagan Wins Bronze In Pan Am Games Marathon
July 19, 2015 | Cross Country
SEATTLE - Former Husky All-American Lindsay Flanagan became the first USA track athlete to medal at the 2015 Pan American Games on Saturday, as she earned the bronze medal in the women's marathon, running for over two-and-a-half hours through the streets of Toronto.
Braving humid conditions that forced several competitors to drop out, Flanagan, the 2014 Husky grad and older sister of current junior Kaylee Flanagan, finished third in a time of 2:36.30.
Flanagan was a three-time NCAA Cross Country Championships participant for the Huskies and a Second Team All-American in the 10,000-meters in her final track season in 2014.
Flanagan was in the lead group as they went through 15k in 55:42, before eventual winner Gladys Tejada of Peru pulled away, going through the half-marathon point in 1:17:11, 33 seconds ahead of the Husky alum.
Flanagan maintained second place until before the 35k mark when second place finisher Adriana da Silva of Brazil passed her. Tejada crossed the line first in 2:33:03, followed by da Silva in 2:35:40, and Flanagan in 2:36:30.
This was just the second marathon for Flanagan, who ran 2:33:12 in her debut at the Chevron Houston Marathon earlier this year.
