
Huskies Swept by No. 15 UCLA, 4-0, in Pac-12 Quarterfinals

OJAI, Calif. – The sixth seeded Washington men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 sweep to the hands of third-seeded and 15th-ranked UCLA Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2015 Pac-12 Championships held at Libbey Park in Ojai, Claif. The Huskies conclude the regular season with a 13-11 record and finished the season winning three of their last five outings.
UCLA claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The 84th ranked duo of Joe Diguilio and Karue Sell defeated Joao Barra and Viktor Farkas, 8-1 and Dennis Mkrtchian and Austin Rapp battled to an 8-5 win to secure the point. UW's No. 57 pair of Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke were tied up with ninth-ranked Mackenzie McDonald and Martine Redlicki when play was called.
In singles play, the Huskies faced a battle as the top three of UCLA's lineup all featured ranked opponents. It was in those three matches that the Bruin win was decided as freshman Jake Douglas fell to No. 36 Dennis Mkrtchian, 6-3, 6-1. All five of Douglas' losses during his first year with the Dawgs, where he finished with a 22-5 record, came against ranked opponents.
Fellow freshman and 96th ranked Mitch Stewart took on third-ranked Mackenzie McDonald and was defeated 6-2, 6-1. The Bruins clinched the match as Emmett Egger dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to No. 107 Martin Redlicki.
