PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Cheng-Tsung Pan continued the brilliant start to his pro career over the weekend, placing tied for 14th at the Web.com Qualifying Tournament to earn a spot on the Web.com Tour next season.
Pan finished up with a round of 2-under 69 on Sunday at PGA National Resort & Spa on the Champion Course for a 5-under 281 total. He was three shots clear of the top-45 that earned Web.com expemtion through at least the second reshuffle next year.
After placing second on the money list last season on the Mackenzie Tour (Canadian PGA Tour), despite playing in just seven of 12 events, Pan now takes the next step with his professional career. The Web.com Tour acts as the jumping off point to the PGA Tour.
Pan was one of over 1,000 entrants in the Web.com Q-School that began with two pre-qualifying stages that started last August.
The Washington alum that is the career record holder in wins with eight was also the 2015 NCAA Runner-Up, finishing just one shot short of getting into a playoff. Already a veteran of four major championships, including twice making the cut at the U.S. Open, Pan will now look for a high finish on the Web.com Tour to earn PGA Tour status.
Pan will need to finish in the top-25 on the Web.com Tour next season to earn the all-important PGA Tour Card.
Three other Husky alums also competed over the weekend with Kevin Spooner having the best finish at 1-over 287 to tie for 67th. The others were Chris Evans at 7-over 293 and tied for 114th and Chris Killmer at 22-over 308 and 151st place.
