
Getting To Know Nour Abbes

Junior Nour Abbes joins the Washington women's tennis team this season after winning the NAIA Championship in singles last year. Coming from Xavier University of Louisiana, she had a 30-match win streak, helping lead the team to the No. 1 NAIA ranking. She was the runner up at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships and has competed in the US Open, French Open and Wimbledon junior events. She's achieved a career-best ITF junior rank of No. 48 in the world, and has international experience, earning a WTA ranking of 887 in singles and 823 in doubles.
With the regular season beginning soon we asked Abbes a few questions in order to get to know her a little better:
What drew you to tennis?
I started playing tennis by pure chance in a PE class in school. I immediately fell in love with it once I tried it.
What has been your favorite tennis moment so far?
Playing in the Fed Cup with the Tunisian National Team and getting to Group One.
What drew you to the University of Washington?
When I came on my visit here I fell in love with the place and the team, so I chose to join the Husky family.
What are your goals while here at Washington?
To host the NCAA Tournament.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
Only to eat breakfast.
Who's your favorite professional athlete?
Ronaldinho
What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
I enjoy playing video games.
What is your favorite TV show?
Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy.
What has been the most difficult part of transitioning from Tunisia to the US?
The difference in culture. Things like the celebrations, the way people interact and the food.
Aside from friends or family, if you could bring one part of Tunisia to Seattle what would it be?
I would bring the beaches and the couscous.
What has been your favorite thing about Seattle so far?
The beautiful landscape.
You've traveled for many tournaments, what has been your favorite club or court you've played on?
Roland Garros in Paris.
If you could play one match against anyone right now who would it be?
Justine Henin or Martina Hingis.
Pepsi or Coke?
Neither, I love Orangina.
If we checked your iPod, what would be your top played song?
One by U2 or a Mary J Blige song.
