ROLLING HILLS, Calif. – Three Huskies remain in the main draw at the Jack Kramer Invitational. Freshman Stacey Fung will play in tomorrow's singles final, while duo Tami Grende and Miki Kobayashi will play a semifinal matchup in doubles.
Fung began the day defeating Sarah Gong of UC Irvine 6-3, 6-1 in a quarterfinals matchup. She then defeated Oregon's Shweta Sangwan 6-3, 6-4 in their second match of the year, after defeating her 6-4, 6-1 at the Washington Invitational last month.
"Stacey has shown a lot of poise this weekend and is playing within herself," said head coach Robin Stephenson. Fung will face Mayar Ahmed of Fresno State at 11 a.m. for the singles title.
Grende and Kobayashi defeated Fresno State's Sophie Watts and Emma Wilson 8-3 to advance to Sunday's semifinals. They will play a second duo from Fresno State in siblings Maiar and Rana Ahmed at 9 a.m. for a chance to play in the doubles final at 12:30 p.m.
"Miki has really stepped up with her doubles lately and has put a lot of work into getting better," said Stephenson. "It's great to see her having success recently and her and Tami have great chemistry and are playing really well together. We have some tough competition tomorrow and are looking forward to another great day."
