
Huskies Finish Day One Of Washington Invitational

SEATTLE – The Huskies women's tennis team finished up day one of the Washington Invitational Friday afternoon, after participating in both doubles and singles matches throughout the day. The teams included in the competition were Kentucky, Oregon and Pepperdine.
The Huskies got off to a great start in the morning, sweeping their first six doubles matchups. Elianne Douglas-Miron and Stacey Fung defeated Dzina Milovanovic and Laura Gulbe of Pepperdine 6-4 on court one, while Sophia Bott and Miki Kobayashi defeated Nadia Ravita and Kate Lanier of Kentucky 6-3. The Huskies rounded out their hot start with Tami Grende and Kenadi Hance defeating Pepperdine's Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai and Danielle Feneridis 6-2.
They continued their run in the morning sweeping three teams from Oregon with Douglas-Miron and Fung defeating Tobita and Sangwan 6-4 and Bott and Kobayashi defeating Nasser and Aubuchon 6-2. Grende and Hance defeated No. 56 duo Kluiving and Johnson 6-4 on court three.
“It was so good to get back to competing and have our freshman get their first taste of college tennis today,” head coach Robin Stephenson said. “It was a very encouraging day overall and we can take a lot of positives into tomorrow.”
In singles play Douglas-Miron defeated Morgan Chumney of Kentucky 6-2, 6-2 while Stacey Fung defeated Justina Mikulskyte of Kentucky 6-3, 6-0. Bott and Hance both fell to ranked Kentucky opponents, as Bott fell to No. 78 Aldila Sutjiadi 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 and Hance fell to No. 120 Mami Adachi 6-2, 6-3.
Grende defeated Kentucky's Lewis 7-5, 6-3 while Grace Ysidora defeated Lanier of Kentucky 6-2, 6-1. Kobayashi fell in a marathon match to Kentucky's Akva Parazinskaite 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
“The team did a great job and we are pleased with the progress they're all making,” said Stephenson.
