RALEIGH, N.C. – UW gymnastics scored 195.550 points to beat the Wolfpack of NC State Friday night, led by standout performances from Janae Janik and Allison Northey. NC State ended the meet with a score of 194.150.
“We went out and did exactly what I'd hoped we would do and what we expected to do,” head coach Joanne Bowers said. “We approached this as business trip and everybody took their job very seriously. When you trust yourself, trust your teammates and your training, you're going to have success, and we did that tonight. Allie and Janae were stellar and we've come to expect that from them.”
Both Janik and Northey competed in three events for the GymDawgs and posted a score of 9.825 or higher in each of their respective events. Northey's 9.9 on bars won her the event. She also posted a 9.825 on both vault and beam. Janik's 9.9 on beam was the high scores in the event. The sophomore pitched in a 9.850 on floor and 9.825 on bars.
“We all did our jobs and we all had fun together, which makes us do better,” Northey said. “In our team meeting my team told me how much confidence they had in me and my abilities, which allowed me to have more confidence in myself. Having them behind me help me perform the best routines I could have.”
Hailey Burleson, an Asheville, N.C. native, had a considerable crowd on hand in a homecoming of sorts and performed well. She posted the Huskies' best score on vault with 9.85 and a solid 9.75 on bars.
The GymDawgs started off the meet in emphatic fashion, with all six competing gymnasts posting a 9.75 or higher on bars. Northey's 9.90 was tied for the highest score given out at the meet for any event, and the Huskies got a 9.85 from McKenzie Fechter and a 9.825 from Janik.

Freshman Zoey Schaefer's strong floor routine earned her a 9.875, high score for the Huskies. Janik continued her impressive meet with a 9.85 and Madison Podlucky posted a 9.775.
The Huskies concluded on beam, led by Janik's 9.9. Northey's 9.825 gave the GymDawgs the top two spots in the event as UW finished off the meet strong.
Brittni Watkins led NC State with a 39.200 all-around score as one of two Wolfpack gymnasts to compete all-around. She scored a 9.9 on vault to win the event. Lane Jarred played a big role, posting a 9.8 or higher in three different events.
