
Huskies Ninth At Itani Quality Homes Collegiate

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington had a tough day at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate on Monday, finishing at even-par 560 after 36 holes at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. The Dawgs are in ninth place with one round to play at the tournament hosted by Washington State.
Washington is 19 shots off the lead held by Oregon (-19) whose second round of 16-under 264 was the best of the day. USC (-17) and Washington State (-16) round out the top three in the team standings.
Rico Hoey of USC and Aaron Wise of Oregon are tied for the individual lead at 9-under. Jonathan Thomas of Utah is one stroke back after tying the course record with a round of 8-under 70 in the first round.
Washington is led by freshman Frank Garber, who is tied for ninth at 4-under 136. Garber had two rounds in the 60's with a 1-under 69 in the morning, followed by a 3-under 67 in round two.
Also playing well for the Dawgs is Kevin Kwon who is tied for 26th at 1-under. Kwon was solid all day with an even-par 70, followed by a round of 1-under 69.
Chris Babcock overcame an opening 74 that was the score thrown out, to respond with a second round of 1-under 69. He is tied for 48th at 3-over.
Jonathan Sanders and Corey Pereira came into the tournament in the first and second spot in the Husky lineup, but both players never really found their rythm. Sanders is tied for 56th at 4-over, while Pereira is tied for 62nd at 5-over.
Washington did have some quality play from their individuals, led by Tyler Salsbury who is teid for 21st at 2-under. Salsbury opened with a round of 3-under 67, before a 71 in the afternoon. Freshman Greg Gildea is also under par with an opening round 71, followed by a round of 2-under 68 to sit in a tie for 26th. Jordan Lu (2-over) and Spencer Weiss (5-over) are also competing for the Huskies.
Tuesday will mark the final round of the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate from Palouse Ridge. Play from a shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Huskies beginning on holes 11-14.
