Vansant Breaks Record With 10th Pac-12 Player of the Week
SEATTLE - For the third time in her career, Husky senior Krista Vansant followed up a Pac-12 Player of the Week award with the AVCA National Player of the Week honor. The three wins tie Vansant for third-most all time. Vansant was also named Pac-12 Player of the Year on Tuesday for the second year in a row.
Vansant is the type of player that puts up huge numbers on a weekly basis, so it goes without saying she had another tremendous week to conclude the regular season. In one of the most highly anticipated matches in recent memory, the Huskies hosted No. 1 Stanford last Wednesday. In the four-set victory, Vansant contributed 21 kills and 10 digs to hand the Cardinal their first loss of the season. It was their first victory over a No. 1 ranked team since the 2005 NCAA National Championship Match against Nebraska.
The Huskies wrapped up the regular season with a sweep over Washington State where Vansant put down another 15 kills, nine digs and two blocks. They will open up NCAA Tournament play as the No. 3 seed on Friday, December 5th against New Hampshire at home.
This is the ninth time a Washington student-athlete has garnered Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week honors and the third overall for Vansant. Her previous honors were on October 2, 2012 and November 11, 2013. The Huskies are coached by Jim McLaughlin.
