Vansant Breaks Record With 10th Player Of The Week

SEATTLE – In the final two regular season matches of her career, senior Krista Vansant led the Huskies to a win over No. 1 Stanford and the rival Washington State Cougars, earning Vansant one final record-breaking Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week award. The outside hitter from Redlands, Calif. broke a tie she held with former Stanford great Logan Tom for most weekly honors in Pac-12 history.
It's the 10th Player of the Week for Vansant, who has now earned eight Offensive honors and two Defensive honors. All told this season the Huskies earned nine Player of the Week wins, three for offense, four for defense, and two freshman weekly awards.
The Huskies knocked No. 1 Stanford from the ranks of the unbeaten last Wednesday, with Vansant leading the way to a 3-1 win over the Cardinal. It was Washington's first win over a No. 1-ranked team since the 2005 NCAA title match against Nebraska. Vansant hit for 21 kills and added 10 digs for her 12th double-double of the season, while hitting .304. She also served up a pair of aces and added two assists, as UW snapped Stanford's 28-match win streak.
Two nights later, the Huskies swept Washington State to conclude the regular season, with Vansant posting 15 more kills and hitting over .300 yet again with two more aces.
The Huskies head into the NCAA tournament with a 29-2 record, setting a new school record for regular season victories. UW earned the No. 3 overall seed in the tourney, also tying the program-best, and will host New Hampshire in the first round this Friday, Dec. 5, at 7:00 p.m.
