SEATTLE – Junior Cassie Strickland has been named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season following Washington's two wins over Arizona and Arizona State last weekend. The Huskies have earned eight Player of the Week wins this year, two for offense, four for defense, and two freshman weekly awards.
Strickland helped the Huskies hold the Arizona schools to a combined .134 attack percentage in a pair of 3-0 wins. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native averaged 5.00 digs per set and anchored a Husky passing game that helped UW hit at a .362 clip, with zero reception errors in her 32 attempts. Strickland had 14 digs in the win over Arizona, and added 16 more in the sweep of Arizona State on Sunday.
Strickland previously won Defensive Player of the Week honors on November 3. She is averaging 4.05 digs per set in Pac-12 play which ranks ninth in the league, and her 30 service aces in Pac-12 matches are second overall.
The Huskies improved to 27-2 with the two wins and 16-2 in Pac-12 play. Washington now has a quick turnaround before one of the biggest matches of the year, with No. 1-ranked Stanford coming to town this Wednesday, Nov. 26, for a 5:00 p.m. start.
