
Huskies Edge By Vikings In NCAA Opener

SEATTLE - A sacrifice fly by Kaitlin Inglesby in the fifth drove in Jennie McNeill (Simi Valley, Calif.) as the winning run in a tight NCAA opening 2-1 victory over Portland State on Friday night at Husky Softball Stadium.
With the win, the No. 11/9 Huskies (39-15) will face No. 20/23 Hawai'i (44-11) at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner advancing to the championship series on Sunday. Hawai'i defeated Minnesota, 3-0, in game one on Friday night. Minnesota will face Portland State in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m.
Junior pitcher Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) set a new career-high with 13 strikeouts in the game, fanning six of the first nine Vikings. She earned the complete game victory, allowing just one run on three hits to improve to 15-7 on the year.
Anna Bertrand (21-16) pitched an outstanding game for Portland State. She allowed just one earned run on one hit in 6.0 innings.
Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) drove in the game-tying run with a double in the fourth as pinch runner Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) scored from first.
The first hit of the game for either team was a leadoff home run in the fourth by Carly McEachran.
