SEATTLE -No. 11/9 Washington will play for the NCAA Seattle Regional Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a 2-0 victory over No. 20/23 Hawai'i on Saturday afternoon at Husky Softball Stadium. At 40-15 now on the season, the UW earned its first 40+ win season since 2010.
Washington will play Hawai'i who defeated Minnesota, 3-0, in an elimination game Saturday night. Hawai'i will have to beat the Huskies twice on Sunday to advance to Super Regionals.
The Husky pitching was right on point again with a solid outing from junior Kaitlin Inglesby(Portland, Ore.). She allowed just two hits and struck out nine to improve to 22-7 on the season.
The offense got six hits against Hawai'i ace Kaia Parnaby, with two from freshman Jennie McNeill(Simi Valley, Calif.).
Both Husky runs came late, in the bottom of the sixth. Inglesby drew walk to lead off the inning. A double to right center by sophomore Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) drove in pinch runner Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.). A sac bunt by Kimberlee Souza(Waialua, Hawai'i) moved the runner over.
McNeill drove in Lahners from third with a single to left on the first pitch.
Minnesota defeated Portland State, 5-0, in game two on the day, eliminating the Vikings.
