WASHINGTON
2001 (Junior): Played in 12 games and started in 10 appearances ... missed three games due to injury ... took two shots on goal, both on the road at Oregon State ... key figure in team defense that held opponents to 25 goals on the year.
2000 (Sophomore): Moved into the starting lineup, getting the nod in 18 of 20 games played … took four shots on the year and tallied one assist, on a Kai Carroll goal in Huskies' first victory of the year, a 3-0 decision over San Diego State … key defender in seven Husky shutouts … helped lead defensive unit that did not allow opponents two or more goals in a game more than two times ... played for the West Region Sports Festival team in summer, 2001, team was undefeated en route to winning the regional title.
1999 (Freshman): Played in three games at defense, all in non-conference play ... was not credited with a shot.
1998: Redshirted the season.
CLUB/HIGH SCHOOL
Earned first-team all-league and all-region honors as a sophomore and junior at West Valley High School...squad won the state championship his sophomore year, finished second as a junior and third his rookie campaign... team won the district championship his final two years...scored nine goals and handed out 10 assists as a stopper and sweeper...also lettered in cross country as a senior.
PERSONAL
Born Aug. 9, 1979, in Yakima, Wash...parents are Barbara and Joel Heinzen...Joel attended UW...has two younger sisters, Lisa and Gretchen, both of whom play soccer in high school...enjoys snowboarding and watching soccer...is contemplating a career in broadcasting...majoring in drama ... sportswriter for The UW Daily.
