Former professional soccer player Seth Spidahl enters his eighth year on the Husky soccer staff. Along with his on-field duties, he has been instrumental in the Huskies' nationwide recruiting efforts.
During Spidahl's tenure on Montlake, the Huskies have reached at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament four times including a school-record Sweet 16 appearance in 2003. Among those Huskies Spidahl helped recruit over the years were UW All-Americans C.J. Klaas, Mike Chabala and Ty Harden, all of which were drafted by MLS teams. Spidahl also helped recruit and coach UW's back-to-back Pac-10 players of the Year Ely Allen (2007) and Kevin Forrest (2006), also MLS draft picks.
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Spidahl spent three years playing professional soccer for the Seattle SeaDogs, during which his team won the 1997 Continental Indoor Soccer League Championship. He was a four-year letterwinner as a defender at Pacific Lutheran University and as a sophomore helped guide the Lutes to the NAIA national finals and a 14-6-2 record.
Spidahl, 35, has been active in Seattle-area soccer at every level for many years and is currently the assistant coaching director and club team coach for the Crossfire Premier Soccer Club. He also worked with the Tacoma based boys premier club team F.C. United, spending six years in the coaching ranks before taking on director duties for five years. During his coaching tenure, Spidahl guided his under-18 team, a club that featured former Husky defender Zac Tallman, to the 1999 national championship.
Spidahl, who has a USSF "A" coaching license, was an assistant coach at the University of Puget Sound for the 1999 and 2000 seasons and helped guide the Loggers to an overall record of 32-7-3. Prior to that, he spent one season as an assistant and two as head men's soccer coach at Tacoma Community College. His TCC teams had an overall record of 26-10-7, won two division championships and finished as runners-up in the 1998 state tournament.
Spidahl graduated magna cum laude from PLU in 1996. A science major, he was a two-time NAIA Academic All-American and was named PLU Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior. Spidahl and his wife Kristine reside in Tacoma. They have a one-year old son, Zachary, born July 6, 2007.
