Yang Leads Huskies' Efforts Down In The Desert

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Husky sophomore Jennifer Yang is tied for ninth and Washington is 12th as a team after two rounds of play at the PING/ASU Invitational.

Washington scored 6-over 294 on Saturday at ASU's par-72 Karsten Course. The Huskies moved to 10 over with a two round total of 586.
"We just can't seem to get everyone going," is how Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur summed up her team's play through two days.
"That's frustrating, because we know they're all good."
Yang is the top Husky on the leaderboard with a score of 141 (-3) through 36 holes. She shot 2-over 74 on Saturday, which included a pair of three putts to wrap up her round and contributed to a bogey, double-bogey finish.
Despite Yang's rough finish, Mulflur is happy to see her previously struggling sophomore in contention at the final tournament before the Pac-12 championships.
"I was proud of Jen Yang. After coming off a 67 she played really well, she just had the trouble at the end, which is very much not like her," Mulflur said of Yang, who had a remarkable 23 putts in Friday's round of 67.
Freshman Charlotte Thomas had the best round of the day among Huskies. She shot even-par 72 and is tied of 41st with a 3-over 147.
Thomas is tied with sophomore teammate SooBin Kim. Kim shot 73 after a 74 on Friday.
Ying Luo shot 75 on Saturday and is 7 over for the tournament. Her total of 151 puts her tied for 57th.
Cyd Okino shot a non-counting 79 a day after being disqualified in the first round for signing an incorrect scorecard.
Mulflur is fully expecting a bounce-back round for her team on Sunday.
"I think it will come down to a pride factor," she said. "We're much better than this. We are ranked in the top 10 and here we are near the bottom of the field.
"We have Conference coming up so we need to get on our horse and kind of giddy up a little bit."
Duke leads the 17-team field with a two round score of 564 (-12). They are five shots ahead of Alabama and six ahead of third-place USC.
Duke's Laetitia Beck and Alabama's Emma Talley are tied for the individual lead at 7-under 137. They have a one-shot advantage over a trio of golfers heading to the final round.
Washington will be paired up with Texas A&M and UC Davis in Sunday's final round. They are scheduled to start teeing off at 8:50 a.m. from the 10th tee.
