Three Huskies Earn All-Tournament Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 20 Washington men's soccer team wrapped up play at the UAB "Soccer for a Cure" Classic on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to the host Blazers. UW went 1-1 on the weekend with a 1-0 win over Memphis on Friday.
The Huskies are 4-2-1 on the season after the loss while UAB improved to 4-2-2.
The game-winning goal came early for the Blazers as Chase Wickham scored on a breakaway in the 25th minute. The second UAB goal came late in the game in the 79th minute. Atak Yai sent a nice pass from the right side of the box to Freddy Ruiz who tapped the ball by UW keeper Spencer Richey for the 2-0 lead.
Washington had several great opportunities in the second half maintaining most of the possession in the last 45 minutes. Quinton Beasley, Taylor Peay, Abdul Aman and Dylan Tucker-Gangnes had had solid shots on goal.
"An unfortunate deflection put us in an early hole," said head coach Jamie Clark. "We fought to get back in the game and made enough chances. Unfortunately that opened us up to transition where they put the game away with a second."
Richey made two saves in the game for the Huskies who took 11 shots in the match. UAB took 15 total shots.
Peay was issued a red card in the 80th minute so he won't be eligible for Washington's game vs. Brown on Friday.
Washington finished second in the tournament with a 1-1-0 record behind the tournament champion UAB who went 1-0-1. Three Huskies made the all-tournament team: Ben Fisk, Tucker-Gangnes and Richey.
Washington will host its annual Husky Classic Tournament next Friday and Sunday featuring Seattle U, Portland and Brown along with the Huskies.
