STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The season for the Husky women's golf team came to an end on Saturday when the team shot 17-over 305 in the final round of the NCAA East Region and finished outside the top-8 cutline.
The Huskies entered the day eighth on the leaderboard, but could not hold onto their golden ticket to the NCAA championship. Washington was within four shots of fourth place, but conversely had five teams five strokes or closer behind them. Unfortunately, they went the wrong direction on the leaderboard on Saturday.
UW was +5 as they made the turn and still in the running, but luck ran out on the back when they combined to shoot +12 over the final nine holes. They ended up 13th in the standings at +40 (904), 17 shots off the final cut.
South Carolina led the tournament start to finish and won by shooting +9 (873) overall. Texas A&M and Texas tied for second and were +12. Also advancing from the region to the NCAA championship are: Alabama (+15), Florida (+15), Arizona State (+23), Michigan State (+23) and Duke (+23).

Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova took individual medalist honors by shooting 3-under 213. She was two shots better than Alabama's Jennifer Kirby.
UW Coach Mary Lou Mulflur couldn't hide her disappointment after the round and was left searching for answers. According to the Huskies' 29th-year head coach, the team seemed to be more than ready to go before teeing off at 7:30 a.m. ET at Penn State Golf Course.
"I don't know, they were really relaxed and they seemed really loose this morning," said a stunned Mulflur. "We had a good warm up and then we just never got out of the box. It went from bad to worse. I don't know if it was a residual from yesterday; we finished poorly and that cost us. Today, we just kind of kept playing the way we finished yesterday.
"I certainly didn't see this coming."
Along with the end of the season came the end of senior Sadena Parks' college playing career. The Puyallup native was participating in her 120th collegiate round, which is the 9th most in UW school history, and ended up as the top-finishing Husky.
She shot 77 to end up at 226 (+10) overall and tied for 51st among the 125 competitors.
A trio of freshmen in the lineup was the team's next top three finishers. SooBin Kim, a second-team All-Pac-12 selection, ended up at 227 (+11), while both Jennifer Yang and Cyd Okino were +13 (229).
Besides Parks, the entire lineup from the regional is expected to return next season, giving Mulflur and her Huskies a very bright future.
"I think we learned a lot this week and the freshmen especially got a good taste of what it's about," Mulflur said. "We know they are very talented."
"They played in almost every tournament and got to see what it's like to compete at this level. They know that they are capable of succeeding at this level."
Sophomore Kelli Bowers also put her potential on display this week. She was tied for 4th after round one with an impressive opening 71, but couldn't keep the momentum rolling. Bowers followed an 82 on Friday with 80 on Saturday to finish 17-over for the tournament.
Bowers and the trio of returning freshmen, plus the addition of several highly touted incomers, have Mulflur already looking forward to the potential of next season.
"It's all good," she said about the returning players. "And we're excited about the other kids we are bringing in. I can see where next year will be very exciting and very good for us."
