Dawgs Tied For Fourth At ASU Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - Cheng-Tsung Pan is tied for fourth among individuals and the Washington men's golf team is tied for fourth out of 17 teams after two rounds of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
The Huskies shot even par 284 in consecutive back-to-back rounds on Friday at Karsten Golf Course to end up even-par 568 after 36 holes of play. Pan was the only Husky to shoot in the 60's during both rounds on Friday.
"We were a little sloppy," said Husky Coach Matt Thurmond. "We had too many big scores. We made plenty of birdies, but unlike (the Stanford U.S. Collegiate), we just also made lots of big numbers: double, quadruple, triple bogies. "
San Diego State is the only team that has reached double-digits under par at the tournament. The Aztecs are -11 and hold a four shot lead over California. New Mexico is third at -3, followed by Arizona State and Washington at even par.
"Pan had a really nice day," said Thurmond. "The guys competed real hard. Eleven shots are not insurmountable. We can come out tomorrow and have a real nice round and get right back in the hunt,"

Pan shot 68 and 69 at the par-71 course and is one of five players at -5 through 36 holes. Pan had four birdies and one bogey during the morning and followed up with five birdies and three bogeys in the afternoon. He was the only Husky to shoot under 70 in either round during the day.
Alex Kang of San Diego State and Austin Quick of Arizona State both ended up -9 after 36 holes of play and are tied for the individual lead. They are three shots better than Derek Ernst of UNLV.
Chris Williams and Charlie Hughes are tied for second among Husky golfers. Both ended up at even par 142 through 36-holes of play and are tied for 17th among 95 total competitors. Williams shot a pair of 71s, while Hughes shot 70 and 72.
Sophomore Trevor Simsby enters Saturday's final round tied for 34th. He shot 5-over on the day, ending up with 147 after 75 and 72 on Friday.
Larry Iverson is tied for 88th after shooting 84 and 74 during the day.
Saturday's final round begins tomorrow 7:00 a.m., with the Huskies teeing off at 7:45 a.m.
