Huskies Down Seattle U In First Meeting

SEATTLE - The Husky women's soccer team took on Seattle University Saturday at Championship Field for a day filled of soccer and service. Both the men's and women's teams from UW and Seattle U were on hand to play games and coach a clinic for kids involved in the Unified Games. The sun was out and so were the smiles of players and participants alike.
The women played first and junior Hillary Zevenbergen (Woodway, Wash.) finished a flighted ball into the box in the first half for what would prove to be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 UW victory.
Some good team defense and crucial saves by senior goalkeeper Kari Davidson (Portland, Ore.) throughout the game proved to be the key to getting the win on the day. "Our ball movement was good at times, but we still have a tendency to force the play instead of relying on our skill to create better opportunities," head coach LesleGallimore stated. Gallimore was also pleased with tenacity of team defense and the effort the team put in to get numbers around the ball early.
"Seattle U is a very good team. It is a plus to have good competition close to home that will help us prepare for the fall."
The Huskies play at home at 7 p.m. on Friday vs. Seattle U. Admission to the game is free. The game was originally scheduled vs. Seattle Pacific but will still feature the Kids Kicking 4 Cancer Clinic. Register for the clinic with the form attached to the top of the page.
