STANFORD, Calif. - The Husky men's golf team is seventh, 24 strokes behind tournament leader Oregon, after two rounds of the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course.

Junior Charlie Hughes leads all Huskies and is 15th overall among 90 competitors.

Washington, No. 5/7 in the Golfstat.com/Golfweek.com rankings, had to wait out a two hour rain delay and was greeted by strong winds when they emerged from the clubhouse to resume play. The Huskies eventually combined to shoot 300 (+20) on Saturday.

The weather caused scores to skyrocket and no teams were under par. Just three squads kept their combined scored below double-digits over par.

"I would like to think we are pretty good playing in the rain," Husky Coach Matt Thurmond said of his Huskies who entered the day in fourth after shooting even par on Friday, "but we certainly weren't today."

The Ducks are the only team under par at -4 and have an eight shot lead over USC heading into tomorrow's final round. UCLA and Stanford are tied for 3rd at +8. San Diego State and the Stanford "B" squad are the only other teams ahead of Washington at +18.

Hughes and Cheng-Tsung Pan each shot 73 at the 6,742-yard par 70 course to lead UW on Saturday. Hughes was even-par after Friday leaving him tied with two other golfers at 143 (+3) after 36 holes. Pan is tied for 25th at +5.

Joining Pan at +5 overall is Chris Williams. Williams, who has been sick during the first two days of competition, shot an uncharacteristic 7-over 77. He shot 68 on Friday.

Sophomore Cory McElyea shot 77 and is tied for 45th at +8 overall. Trevor Simsby is one stroke back of his classmate McElyea at +9 overall. Simsby shot 78 on Saturday.

"It was everything today," responded Thurmond when asked what wrong for his guys during the day. "We hardly made any birdies and Chris and Pan made zero birdies.

"That is almost unheard of."

Patrick Rodgers from host Stanford leads the individual battle at -5. A trio of Ducks - Eugene Wong (-3), Daniel Miernicki (-2) and Robbie Ziegler(-2) - own the next three places near the top of the leaderboard.

Tee times start at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. Washington will be paired with Oregon State and Nevada and be among the first groups to tee off on No. 1.
