Williams' 67 Helps UW Stay Atop The Leaderboard

Williams enters tomorrow's final round at the Bandon Trails Course with a two-shot advantage over Oregon's Rak Cho. A win for the All-American would give him a school record fifth medalist honor.
"It was nice to see Chris break through. He has been waiting to have a good round," Husky Coach Matt Thurmond said before he and his team played a Saturday afternoon practice round at Pacific Dunes.
Williams, from Moscow, Idaho, had an eagle 3 on the par-5 third hole plus four other birdies on the day. His 67 was the lowest round by the field at the par-71 resort course. He entered the day tied for seventh after a 71 in Friday's first round.

The efforts of Williams are not the only reason the Huskies will take a seven shot lead over second-place Long Beach State into Sunday's final round. Cheng-Tsung Pan shot an even-par 71 and is third among the 85-player field at 1-under 141. He gives Washington two of the three players with scores that are under par.
Trevor Simsby shot 72 and Charlie Hughes shot 76 to round out the teams' combined 3-over 287.
"It was a solid day for the guys," Thurmond said. "We played really well, but we didn't finish well so that left a sour taste in the guys' mouths. But we are happy where we are and excited about tomorrow."
Hughes bogeyed each of the final three holes and is 13th on the leaderboard at +3 overall after starting the day in second.
Simsby bogeyed No. 16 and double-bogeyed No. 18 after sitting at -1 through 15 holes. He is tied for 37th at +7.
Cory McElyea shot 77 and is tied for 47th at 151.
Ty Chambers, competing as an individual, had six birdies during his round and ended up with a 68. He was 14 shots better than his 84 on Friday. He is tied for 51st at 152.
Washington will be among the first teams off the tees on Sunday as they start their round at 8:30 a.m. from the first hole.
